The regular meeting of the Town of Pines Town Council was called to order at 6:30 p.m.
Cathi Murray led us in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. In attendance were: Cathi Murray, George Adey, Vicki Kuzio, Alan Murray and Sandra Hall. Dan Fries was absent.
George made a motion to accept the March Minutes and Vicki seconded the motion and the motion was voted on and passed 3-0.
Clerk-Treasurer Sandra presented the council with the 2011 and 2012 CEDIT Ordinance. George made a motion to pass the CEDIT ordinance # 2011-03-02 on the first reading and Vicki seconded the motion and the motion was voted on and passed 3-0. Ordinance # 2011-03-02 was voted on and passed 3-0.
Sandra asked to be allowed to go to the June schooling for Clerk-Treasurers which is being held in Merrillville this year. George made a motion to allow Sandra to attend the full schooling and Vicki seconded the motion and the motion was voted on and passed 3-0. Sandra received a letter from the Michigan City Post Office regarding the large holes on Railroad Ave. The post office will stop delivering mail to those resident if the Town does not repair the road. Vicki will look into this matter and report to Sandra as soon as possible. George made a motion for Sandra to sign the payment agreement with Rieth-Riley, Vicki seconded the motion and the motion was voted on and passed 3-0.
Building and Zoning 1 permit was issued to Hamstra Builders, Inc. for the Town Hall Building. The projected completion date of the Building is the end of June.
Mr. Dobkins was in attendance and he has stated that he intends to do nothing more to his property. The Councils position is that nothing more will be done unless there is more complaints regarding his property, at which time, those complaints will be dealt with.
Alan has had a meeting with Hamstra Builders here at the Town Hall and Hamstra has requested that we get together any color schemes we want for this new Town Hall.
Street Department Leaf pickup will start soon. Light out on Railroad Ave. Spring Clean-up will be soon and the times will be announced on a flyer to each home.
Old Business George made a motion to sign Flood Ordinance 2011-03-03(a) Amendment to Ordinance 2011-03-03, Vicki seconded the motion and the motion was voted on and passed 3-0. A copy of this ordinance will be sent with the form to participate in the National Flood Insurance Program to Laura Kannapel of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Water. Cathi is looking into the different Dunes grass to be planted at the Birch Street Park .
George asked Sandra to send a “Thank You” letter to Brown, Inc. and Jon’s Tree Service for removing the trees at the Birch Street Park .
George attended a Branding meeting and he informed Loreli Weimer that the Town of Pines would like to keep the slogan “Gateway to the Dunes”.
New Business The Branding Team suggests that we look for volunteers to walk up and down our streets and pick up garbage.
George spoke with Beverly Shores about patrolling in the Town of Pines . George will attend Beverly Shores Council meeting and report back to us at the May meeting.
P.I.N.E.S. Group would like to propose that the owners of the 520 yard put up a chain link fences around the dump, and would like to know if the Council is okay with that. The Council said that would not be a problem with them.
Public Comments Stephanie Morton came to ask the Council for the paper work on vacating the alley adjoining her property. Sandra gave them the paper work to fill out.
George made a motion to pay the March claims and Vicki seconded the motion and the motion was passed 3-0.
As there was no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
