The regular meeting of the Town of Pines Town Council was called to order by Cathi Murray at 6:30 p.m.Cathi led us in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.In attendance were:Cathi Murray, George Adey, Vicki Kuzio, Dan Fries, Alan Murray and Sandra Hall. George made a motion to accept the last month meeting minutes and Vicki seconded the motion and the motion was voted on and passed 3-0.
Clerk-Treasurer Sandra read the funds received.
Street Department Dan reported that the snow removal went smoothly.There is a problem on Railroad Ave.The postmaster sent the Town a letter stating that if we did not fix the holes on Railroad Ave. they would not deliver mail to our residents.Dan presented the Council with 3 proposals from different companies to come and fix Railroad Ave.After reviewing the proposals Vicki made a motion to accept the top quote on theproposal from Jakab Falatovics Construction.This proposal was the cheapest and they have done great work for us in the past.George seconded the motion and as there was no further discussion the motion was voted on and passed 3-0. Dan also reported that there is a broken tree at the Birch Street park.He will cut the tree down this month.
Building and Zoning Administrator Alan is going to contact our Town attorney and ask him about the right procedures for changing the zoning on Railroad Ave from I-1 to R-1. Alan suggested that the Council amend the Town Code ordinance regarding building permit fees and add an inspection fee for meters.Sandra will type this up for the next months meeting. (Changing the building and permit fee from $25.00 to $30.00 and adding an meter inspection fee of $15.00 per meter per inspection.However, the inspection fee will be waive if a building permit is issued. Vicki made a motion to table the Nespo property issue until Alan can collect more information for the next meeting, George seconded the motion and the motion was voted on and passed 3-0. Mr. Dobkins received his letter on February 12, 2010 and he has 90 days to clean up property. The company that was given a tax abatement has submitted drawings that indicate that there are no plans for a smoke or fire detector in this building.Alan is expressing a concern for the employees in the case of a fire.Cathi will write a letter to the owners expressing the Councils concern over this issue. 2 permits issued.
New Business Sandra presented the 2010 Animal Control contract to the Council and George made a motion to sign the contract and Vicki seconded the motion and the motion was voted on and passed 3-0. Sandra asked the Council about purchasing Labor Law posters and they agreed that they should be purchased and posted.
Old Business Sandra is to write a letter to T-Mobile saying “no” to their proposal to change the agreement with the Town on the Florida Ave. Cell Tower .It is in the best interest of the Town to stick with the original agreement.Our Attorney has advised us on this issue. George informed the Council that the light on Birch Street has been fixed by Nipsco. George is having a great response to the Census and he has been distributing the hats and shirts to local business owners to promote filling out the 2010 Census.
Public Comments Kent Verhage inquired about the cell tower in the Birch Street park and why it has not been finished.Alan said that the company is waiting on warmer weather. As there was no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
