May 4, 2011 The regular meeting of the Town of Pines was called to order at 6:30 p.m. Cathi led us in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. In attendance were: Cathi Murray, George Adey, Vicki Kuzio, Sandra Hall and Alan Murray.
George made a motion to accept the April Minutes and Vicki seconded the motion and the motion was voted on and passed 3-0.
Clerk-Treasurer Sandra reported that the remaining donation money for the opposition of the Trash Transfer Station was sent to the Lawyer of Porter County to help them with their case against the Transfer Station. This was per request of the P.I.N.E.S. Group from which the donations came.
Building and Zoning Administrator 2 permits were issued this month. The culvert on Ardendale is causing the flooding in that area. It is not the beavers. This culvert was not installed correctly and needs to be redone. Mr. Rouge would like to recondition the arches on Central Ave and Highway 12. He would like to have volunteer manpower and equipment to clean up the brush around the arches so that he can have the work done without brush in his way. Alan had two meetings with the Architect and there were some changes to the new Town Hall building. There is a $300.00 credit because they changed the design of the two front columns and a credit of $242.00 for the vents because they did not need the two gable vents with the design change. The is an additional charge of $354.00 for a floor drain and an additional charge of $1,095.00 because a mop sink was added.
Street Department Leaf pickup will continue the whole year until the first snow fall. Street light still out on Railroad Ave. (Nipsco has been notified) Brian walked the ditches and they are all flowing except the one on Ardendale due to the faulty culvert. There was a call from the Porter County Animal Control about a possible puppy mill here in the Town. They needed our Animal Control Ordinance in order to enforce any action if there is a puppy mill being run within our Town.
Several residents from Railroad Ave were present at this meeting to discuss the problems with the road and their mail not being delivered. Vicki informed them that our men are working on the problem and that we have fixed our portion of this road and that the remaining problem is on the Porter County portion of this road. Alan Murray looked on the Porter County website to determine for sure who owns this portion of the road and Dan will meet with people from Porter County on Saturday about this problem. Our portion will be repaired for the post office service this week.
Old Business Table the purchasing of Dune Grass until next year if it is needed. George is still working on options for police patrolling in the Town.
John and Stephanie Morton presented the forms for vacating an Alley way to the Town of Pines Town Council . A public hearing is set for June 1, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. here at the Town Hall.
New Business Refuse removal contract will be put out for bids to be opened at the June 1st meeting.

George made a motion to pay the claims and Vicki seconded the motion and the motion was voted on and passed 3-0. There was no further business so the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
